In May 2020, CORDIS wrote an article about MADFORWATER for the Results Pack on Water Innovation for Africa. This thematic collection of project results is specifically tailored to the needs of specialized audiences who can further use this for research and innovations.
In this particular case, the MADFORWATER project will be used as inspiration and an example for future water innovation projects in Africa.
Looking forward: Future water strategy for Africa
In March, the European Commission and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy proposed the basis for a new joint strategy with Africa. The Results Pack created by CORDIS showcases some of the cutting-edge projects in research and innovation that address water-related challenges in Africa.
The examples for the new joint European/African initiatives
- AfriAlliance is bringing African and European stakeholders together to better prepare Africa for water and climate change challenges.
- The DAFNE project focuses on facilitating collaborations for sustainable and effective solutions for the management of the water-energy-food nexus.
- FLOWERED followed a methodological approach for the identification of contaminated water and implemented mitigation and defluoridation measures for its treatment.
- MADFORWATER worked towards developing a set of integrated technological and management solutions to improve wastewater treatment and irrigation.
- The SafeWaterAfrica project developed a novel water-cleaning system that purifies chemical contaminants and disinfects water from pathogens.
- VicInAqua integrated innovative wastewater treatment, aquaculture and irrigation in the Lake Victoria Basin.
- WATERSPOUTT is working towards improving sustainable point-of-use solar disinfection technologies and combining them with other water treatment methods.
